Born in São Paulo, Brazil and raised in Texas, RJ Jacob has had a varied musical education and career, starting with instruction on woodwinds at the age of 9. But he quickly discovered his real desire was to play drums and at the age of 13 acquired his first drum set and began teaching himself to play. By the time he was 16, he was recording his first single in a studio in Houston.
In the ensuing years he played extensively throughout the US and Canada with a variety of bands and singer/songwriters including Mark Nesler (who has written songs for George Strait, Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, Tracy Byrd, Tammy Wynette and Lee Greenwood to name a few) and Brian Black, whose more famous brother Clint is also from Houston.
RJ arrived in Branson in 1995 after a successful audition for the Cristy Lane Show where he performed for a year. Since that time he has worked for or performed in the Ferlin Husky Show, the Larry Musgrave Show, The Doug Gabriel Show, the Lowe Sisters, The Delene Show, The Lisa Layne Show, The Showboat Branson Belle and The Hughes Brothers Show.
In addition to playing drums for the Hughes Brothers, RJ develops and manages the Hughes Brothers website. You can find out more about RJ's web development business at http://rjjacob.com/.
“I wanted to work in an environment that was family-friendly and where I could be home in my own bed every night. Branson is really the only place in the country where a musician can perform in a live show and raise a family in a safe environment,” RJ says. He currently lives outside of Branson with his wife Julie.
